I bought this one as a gift to a friend, and I had a chance to test it. Sound Blaster E1 is a music oriented USB DAC with headphone amplifier, it has both a USB input (for PC or Mac) and a 3.5mm combined input/output for a smartphone or tablet, it has two 3.5mm headphone outputs (for listening with a friend) the second headphone output is convertible to a microphone input in order to use a Gaming Headset (or just a regular computer headset) BUT the Sound Blaster E1 includes a *Very Good* microphone on the top -side of the device itself and an Analog volume slider on the other side. The ones that don't include the amplifier will only have a line out for speakers with no adjustable volume. In the price category you are probably looking for (under USD$100) most "portable" USB DACs (digital to analog converters) are just music oriented USB sound cards and will also include a headphone amplifier inside. Audiophile/music oriented ones will only have a headphone jack, and maybe a separate line out jack but usually no microphone input. USB sound cards designed for gaming or general use will have both a headphone/line-out/speakers 3.5mm jack and also a microphone/line-in 3.5mm jack. Sound Blaster X-Fi Go! Pro, Sound Blaster E1, and Asus Xonar U3 are all external USB sound cards but there are a few differences, let me explain.
